Assessment of CrFeCoNi and AlCrFeCoNi High-Entropy Alloys as Bond Coats for Thermal Barrier Coatings

Abstract High-entropy alloys (HEAs) represent a relatively new group of multicomponent that have shown great potential for applications requiring tribological and oxidation resistant properties. Consequently, thermally sprayed coatings different HEA chemistries received increasing research attention. In this paper, atomized equimolar CrFeCoNi AlCrFeCoNi feedstocks were used high velocity air-fuel spraying (HVAF) to produce overlay using two nozzle configurations. The microstructure, phase constitution hardness the analyzed along with primary aim testing their behavior. performance was compared commercial MCrAlY are well-established bond coat materials thermal barrier (TBCs). An investigation conducted test coatings’ as coats by applying suspension plasma yttria-stabilized zirconia top evaluating cycling behavior TBCs. AlCrFeCoNi-coating found demonstrate lower rate than CrFeCoNi-coating. However, form more rapid oxide scales material also contained reactive elements.
